Puppet Play

Why it’s good for children

Young children are highly imaginative and when given the time to play they immerse themselves in a world of fantasy and creative possibilities. The ordinary becomes extraordinary in the child’s world of play. Simple objects, natural resources, recycled materials and fabrics of different colour and texture become partners in imaginative play as the young child invests them with additional qualities, personalities and adventures.

By puppet play at our Ladyfinger Playschool & Day-Care we respond to the young child’s capacity to imagine by exploring the possibilities of puppets. We create puppets from diverse materials, use puppets as partners in play, as story tellers, dancers and singers. The experiences playfully explored on Ladyfinger Playschool & Day-Care offer a springboard for imagination and creativity for young children and their families.

Puppet play is a fun way for your child to explore strong feelings and learn good ways to manage them.

Strong emotions like frustration and jealousy can be hard for our child to understand and talk about. Exploring and expressing these strong emotions through the character of a puppet can help our child learn how to manage emotions.

Puppet play can be a fun creative activity too, when we and our children make our own puppets.
